The following pictures were taken on the roof of South Physics by Dan Burn on
June 5, 2002 and June 6, 2002 respectively. The brightest Star in the field of view is
SAO 160261 and is magnitude 7 which means it is 3 times dimmer than what you can see with the
naked eye. Look closely under that star and you will notice that one of
the points of light moves from one day to the next. That point of light is Pluto!! These pictures were taken with a 10 inch Meade Schmidt-Cassegrain Reflecting Telescope and a SBIG ST7 CCD Camera.
The exposures were 2 minutes long. CCDOPS and MaximDL was used to take and process the images. To verify which is Pluto click here for the answer.
