This campaign is designed to promote wind power usage by the University while raising awareness among students, faculty, and staff. As many of us know we will soon have to shift our energy sources from non-renewable sources to renewable sources for a variety of reasons, both economical, and environmental.
The Wind Power Campaign at the University proposes that each student pay a 1 dollar fee per semester to purchase wind power. The University has approximately 28,000 students, so this fee would equate to approximately 56,000 dollars a year to purchase wind power with. This would account for just a bit over 1% of the University's energy consumption, and has the potential to prevent between 3,000 - 7,500 TONS of carbon dioxide from entering our precious atmosphere.
Universities across the nation are campaigning to purchase wind power, and many have been successful. This is a chance for the America's next generation of professionals to get a grasp on the energy crisis we will indeed face.
