who I am (partial render)

After earning graduate degrees from the University of Oregon (MS, Telecommunication and Film) and the University of Texas at Austin (Ph.D., Radio-TV-Film), I came to Utah as a professor to build the Communication Department's new media studies program. In 2008 I also began work for the Office of Information Technology's Media Solutions. In that capacity I work as an Applications Analyst/Designer and Producer. My work involves researching, planning, coordinating, and implementing new media and IT projects and programs for the University.

I am humbled to have received the University Professor rank in 2008-9, and am honored by the $20,000 I was awarded to develop a special teaching project. The University Professor rank is a university-wide recognition of professors who "have demonstrated extraordinary skills in teaching, distinguished scholarship in their field, and an interdisciplinary approach to undergraduate instruction."

what I care about in research

My focus in new media studies is the consideration of narratives of power, ideology, and agency in high-tech and new media spaces at the levels of the producer, text, and viewer/player.
