service
Professors perform service activities as part of our jobs. Our work typically includes service to our departments; our colleges; the University of Utah; local and statewide communities; and/or our field's professional organizations and scholarly journals.
My focus has been to provide social justice advocacy support to community groups, including serving on the Board of Directors of the Salt Lake Japanese American Citizens League (JACL). I also provide new media-related service to local Japanese American community groups such as the Salt Lake Nihonmatsuri (Japan Festival) and the Salt Lake and Ogden Buddhist Temples.
My university service record is too extensive to detail here. Highlights include serving on nine hiring committees (including for other departments) and many other action-oriented committees. For the University of Utah I worked as a faculty representative to the Web Advisory Committee, and on the Cyberinfrastructure Council, a campus-wide group charged with planning for and managing the future of the U's computer network structure and related services.
