In
addition to a world-class education, students at the University
of Utah enjoy a host of other benefits...including some that
you might not know.
Your
student ID (the U Card) is your ticket to many of the
perks available to U students. For example, your U Card lets
you travel for free wherever UTA
busses or TRAX go. Just climb aboard and show your U card
and your Free Public Transit Pass.
Your
U Card also paves the way for student-priced tickets for campus
events such as concerts, theatre productions, and dance performances.
Visit the Union
Service Desk, Pioneer
Memorial Theater, the Presenter's
Office or Kingsbury
Hall to check out a schedule of upcoming campus happenings.
You can also enjoy student-priced tickets for many off-campus
events, including ski passes and movie theatres. The Union
Service Desk is your source for off-campus tickets and
information.
Your
academic experience is enhanced by the three libraries on
campus (J. Willard Marriott
Library, Spencer
S. Eccles Health Sciences Library, S.
J. Quinney Law Library) that together offer access to
more than three million holdings. You can also access the
services of the Research Librarian for help with papers. Many
databases are available to students free of charge via the
computer labs located in the libraries. Videos and CDs are
also available to view or hear.
U
students can stroll through acres of floral displays and natural
areas at Red Butte
Garden or attend summertime concerts in this beautiful
oasis. Trailheads to the Shoreline Trail also begin in nearby
Red Butte Canyon. Admission to Red Butte Garden is free to
University of Utah students.
The University of Utah
is a constant feast of information, ideas, knowledge, and
activities for U students. Fortunately, the independent student
newspaper, the Daily
Utah Chronicle, lists weekly and daily happenings on campus
and provides an ongoing dialogue about the university experience.
Catch up on the news, discover what's coming, or add your
comments in a deft letter to the editor.
Take advantage of student
discounts on the University's nine-hole golf course, play
tennis or racquetball, or check out a canoe or tent. It's
all available through Campus
Recreation. This exceptional program also offers students
free access to the University's three swimming pools, indoor
track, weight and cardio machines, indoor basketball courts
and much more. With Campus Rec, there's no excuse for not
keeping in shape and having fun while you do it.
Through
the Hinckley Institute
of Politics students enjoy a broad spectrum of political
experience. Hinckley interns work on state legislative campaigns,
lead tours at the U.S. Supreme Court building, participate
in local community government, and generally learn how to
make a difference in their community, state, and nation. Internships,
scholarships, political seminars, and forums offer students
unparalleled opportunities to engage in the political process
and expand their career development possibilities at the same
time.
For those who are interested,
there are many jobs on campus drawing from a wide range of
skills and abilities. There is something for everyone to do.
Visit the Career Services
Office for more information about on-campus jobs.
If you've always wanted
to promote concerts and other special events the Presenter's
Office could be the place for you. From booking talent
to stocking the dressing rooms, students do it all.
Hone
your leadership skills in ASUU (Associated Students of the University of Utah). Get involved
in student government, join one of over 200 student clubs,
participate in Freshman Council. There's lots to do for anyone
who wants to get involved--and that's the key to a great university
experience.
This
covers just a few of the activities and opportunities awaiting
U students outside the classroom. You'll probably find even
more, since you never know what being a student will mean
to you.
