Application for Early Admission

Early Admission Checklist

EARLY ADMISSION
new students at the U

What is Early Admission?

A student with exceptional scholastic achievement (high school GPA of 3.50 or above, ACT composite of at least 25) through their junior year may be considered for early admission to the University of Utah. Applicants for early admission should have completed their junior year of high school. Students should also arrange with the high school to have an official transcript sent with the completed Eleventh Grade coursework posted on it as soon as the transcript is available. Students are admitted to the program at the beginning of fall semester only. International students are not eligible to apply for early admission.

Early admission is designed for students who desire to leave high school entirely after their junior year and attend the University of Utah full time. Early admission students replace their senior year of high school with their freshman year of college. Students may still graduate with their high school class. To ensure high school graduation, students should coordinate and confirm the completion of applicable requirements with their individual high schools.

What are the requirements for Early Admission?

Applicants are admitted as a University freshman in the regular baccalaureate degree program at the beginning of the fall semester. Applicants need to demonstrate an above-average high school record, a GPA of 3.50 or above, and an ACT composite score of 25. They must also demonstrate high levels of maturity and motivation.

How does one apply?

Application materials and all supporting credentials must be received in the Admissions Office, 250 Student Services Building (mailing address: 201 S. 1460 E. RM 250S, Salt Lake City , UT 84112-9057), by May 1. Completed application forms are required from the student, parent and the high school principal. Also required is the regular application for undergraduate admission (located on the University's website), an official high school transcript showing work through the Eleventh Grade, ACT results and a $45 non-refundable processing fee (subject to change). Final high school transcripts must be sent when available and will be accepted after the May 1 deadline.

Early Admission applicants may also be considered for the Early Admission/Honors at Entrance Scholarship and other financial aid programs at the University of Utah. These are awarded based on available funds and the student's qualifications. Students must complete the regular scholarship and financial aid forms available from the Financial Aid and Scholarships Office, 105 Student Services Building, (801) 581-6211.
