Future Student Open Houses
new students at the U

Sign up now to attend one of two Future Student Spring Open Houses hosted by The Office of Student Recruitment and High School Services. The dates for these events are Wednesday, February 4, 2009 from 5:30-8:30pm and Saturday, April 18, 2009 from 9:00am-12:00pm. Both events will be held in the A. Ray Olpin Student Union on the University of Utah Campus and check-in will begin 30 minutes prior to the start of each event.

What will happen during the Open House?
The Open Houses give you an opportunity to see our campus, ask questions, and meet with admission counselors and departmental representatives from academic, extracurricular, and support organizations across campus. Breakout sessions will include information on:

  • Scholarships and Financial Aid
  • LEAP Program
  • Honors College
  • Diversity Admissions in English and Spanish
  • Housing and Residential Education
  • Student Involvement
  • Transfer Student Admissions
  • K-8, Prepping for College Now
  • Why the U? Freshman Information Session
  • Student Panel
  • Parent Session: How to Help Your Student Succeed

Admissions Office representatives will be available to answer questions regarding the admissions process and help students complete the application online.

Is there a cost to attend?
The Open House is FREE to all students and families*. We encourage elementary, middle school, high school and college transfer students to attend. This is an exciting chance for students and families to learn about the educational and extracurricular opportunities available to them at the University of Utah. (*If you have already been admitted to the University of Utah we strongly encourage you to attend Preview Day on Saturday, March 7, 2009 from 9:00am-12:00pm. Preview Day is designed specifically for admitted first-year students and their parents.  For additional information and to RSVP, visit the  Preview Day Web site.)

While there is not cost to attend, we do ask that you sign up so we know about how many people to expect each day.  To sign up for either day, please visit our online RSVP page.

Where do I need to go?
The Open House will be held at the University’s A. Ray Olpin Student Union (#1 on the campus map).  Directions to the Union are available if you are driving or using TRAX. We encourage you to park in the Visitor's Lot directly east of the Union or the lot to the north of the Alumni House. Validations will be provided for the Wednesday Open House.  All parking is FREE on Saturdays.

Please be aware that the Salt Lake City marathon is on the same day as the April 18th Open House and begins on the U’s campus. We have been informed that the marathon activities on campus will be done by the time the Open House begins. However, the marathon route does pass through parts of Salt Lake and you could encounter the runners as you drive to campus. Therefore, we are providing directions to campus that avoid the marathon route entirely.

Questions?
