What| $500.00 scholarship to assist with a clinical or research elective in a developing country.
| Eligibility| Third and Fourth year medical students at the University of Utah who will complete an elective in an underdeveloped country by June 30, 1998.
| When| Application Deadline: Janaury 15, 1998.
| Background| The International Health Program at the University of Utah has formed an alliance with the Merck Pharmaceutical company to provide financial assistance for students to study International Health in a developing country.
| Selection Criteria| Applicants will be selected based on their academic credentials, quality of their proposal and especially on evidence of sincere interest in pursuing a career in tropical medicine or international health. Elective should be a minimum of two weeks, preferably four and have clearly defined objectives and opportunities for the student.
| InstructionsSend the following items to the address below:
- Curriculum Vitea containing education, training, work experience, prior rserach experience, any publications or abstracts, honors and awards. Be sure to include institutional affiliattion, department and specialy if applicable, status (med student, resident or fellow), mailing address, and contact phone numbers
- Cover letter of no more than 1 page describing: Why you are interested in tropical medicine and international health, a brief description of proposed site of the elective (include where, when, who is U of U preceptor, who is preceptor on site, what you will be doing, etc.) and how this experience will benefit you.
